Jermaine Shute, better known as Nashville rapper Starlito, surrendered to Metro police Thursday. Starlito was wanted by police in connection with a shooting at a Nashville restaurant. According to authorities, he was wanted on aggravated assault and illegal gun possession charges in the shooting of 36-year-old James Fletcher at Batter’d & Fried at 1008 Woodland St. in East Nashville, police spokesman Don Aaron.
Investigators say Fletcher, who was struck in the thigh, “had words with two other men” after walking into the restaurant just before 8:30 p.m. According to surveillance footage, Fletcher punched one of the men and the fight continued out of the scope of the camera. An arrest affidavit shows that Fletcher was struck in the thigh and identified Shute as the person who shot him. Also, a witness at the restaurant and surveillance footage collected from the business identified Shute as the suspect. Fletcher, who was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and later released, has not told police what he and Shute argued over. Shute, 32, of Antioch, was booked into the local jail about 8:50 a.m. and posted a $30,000 bond just before 11 a.m., Davidson County Sheriff's Office records show. Shute, who was just involved in an altercation with Young Buck a few days ago, has declined to comment on the incident.
